PlayStation was the brainchild of Ken Kutaragi, a Sony executive who managed one of the company’s hardware engineering divisions and was later dubbed “The Father of the PlayStation”.

The first news of the PlayStation 5 (PS5) came from Mark Cerny in an interview with Wired in April 2019. Sony intends for the PlayStation 5 to be its next-generation console and to ship worldwide by the end of 2020. In early 2019, Sony’s financial report for the quarter ending March 31, 2019, affirmed that new next-generation hardware was in development but would ship no earlier than April 2020.

The current specifications were released in October 2019. The console is slated to use an 8-core, 16-thread CPU based on AMD’s Zen 2 microarchitecture, manufactured on the 7 nanometer process node. The graphics processor is a custom variant of AMD’s Navi family using the RDNA microarchitecture, which includes support for hardware acceleration of ray-tracing rendering, enabling real-time ray-traced graphics. The new console ships with a custom SSD storage, as Cerny emphasized the need for fast loading times and larger bandwidth to make games more immersive, as well as to support the required content streaming from disc for 8K resolution. In a second interview with Wired in October 2019, further details of the new hardware were revealed: the console’s integrated Blu-ray drive would support 100GB Blu-ray discs and Ultra HD Blu-ray;[citation needed] while a game installation from a disc is mandatory as to take advantage of the SSD, the user will have some fine-grain control of how much they want to have installed, such as only installing the multiplayer components of a game. Sony is developing an improved suspended gameplay state for the PlayStation 5 to consume less energy than the PlayStation 4.

The system’s new controller, the DualSense has adaptive triggers that can change the resistance to the player as necessary, such as changing the resistance during the action of pulling an arrow back in a bow in-game. The controller also has strong haptic feedback through voice coil actuators, which together with an improved controller speaker is intended to give better in-game feedback. USB-C connectivity, together with a higher rated battery are other improvements to the new controller.

The PlayStation 5 features a completely revamped user interface. The PlayStation 5 is backwards-compatible with most PlayStation 4 and PlayStation VR games, with Cerny stating that the transition to the new console is meant to be a soft one. In a later interview, Jim Ryan talked of the PlayStation 5 being able to play “99%” of PlayStation 4 games, an estimate derived from a sample size of “thousands”. At CES 2020, Sony unveiled the official logo for the platform.

Xbox (console)

The Xbox is a home video game console and the first installment in the Xbox series of video game consoles manufactured by Microsoft. It was released as Microsoft’s first foray into the gaming console market on November 15, 2001, in North America, followed by Australia, Europe and Japan in 2002. It is classified as a sixth-generation console, competing with Sony‘s PlayStation 2 and Nintendo‘s GameCube. It was also the first major console produced by an American company since the release of the Atari Jaguar in 1993.Announced on March 10, 2000, the Xbox was graphically powerful compared to its rivals, featuring a 733 MHz Intel Pentium III processor, a processor that could be found on a standard PC. It was also noted for its PC-like size and weight, and was the first console to feature a built-in hard disk. In November 2002, Microsoft launched Xbox Live, a fee-based online gaming service that enabled subscribers to download new content and connect with other players through a broadband connection. Unlike online services from Sega and Sony, Xbox Live had support in the original console design through an integrated Ethernet port. The service gave Microsoft an early foothold in online gaming and would help the Xbox become a competitor in the sixth generation of consoles. The popularity of blockbuster titles such as Bungie‘s Halo 2 contributed to the popularity of online console gaming, and in particular first-person shooters.

XBOX SERIES X
Xbox console with “Controller S”

Before the Xbox, Microsoft had found success publishing video games for its Windows PCs, releasing popular titles such as Microsoft Flight Simulator and the massively successful Age of Empires. However, the company had not delved into the home console market of video games, which was dominated at the time by Sony‘s PlayStation. Sony was working on its next video game console, the PlayStation 2 (PS2), announced officially to the public on March 2, 1999, and intended for the system to act as a gateway for all types of home entertainment. Microsoft CEO Bill Gates saw the upcoming PS2 as a threat to Microsoft’s line of Windows PCs, worrying that the all-encompassing system could eliminate consumer interests in PCs and drive them out of the market

New Balance

New Balance (NB) is an American sports footwear and apparel brand that has been around since 1906. The brand was originally associated with the New Balance Arch Support Company. Today the brand is associated with New Balance Athletics, Inc., an American multinational corporation and its parent New Balance, Inc., a Jim Davis owned holding company that owns New Balance Athletics, Inc. New Balance Athletics, Inc. and New Balance, Inc. are both based in the same headquarters located in Boston, Massachusetts.New Balance is one of the world’s major sports footwear and apparel manufacturers and maintains a manufacturing presence in the United States, as well as in the United Kingdom for the European market, where they produce some of their most popular models such as the 990 model—in contrast to its competitors, which often manufacture exclusively outside the United States and Europe. As a result,In 1906, William J. Riley, an Irish immigrant, founded the New Balance Arch Support Company (registered as New Balance Arch Support Company, Inc. and later registered as New Balance Arch Co., Inc.) in the Boston area, manufacturing arch supports and other accessories designed to improve shoe fit. His first product, a flexible arch support, was designed with three support points to provide greater balance and comfort in the shoe. It is believed that Riley came up with the name “New Balance” by observing chickens in his yard and demonstrated the way his arch supports worked by keeping a chicken foot on his office desk. He explained to customers that the chicken’s three-pronged foot resulted in perfect balance. In 1927, Riley hired Arthur Hall to be a salesman. In 1934, Hall became a business partner.. The company later on did business under the name New Balance Athletic Shoe Company. In 1956, Hall sold the business to his daughter Eleanor and her husband Paul Kidd.

Adidas Stan Smith

Adidas Stan Smith is a tennis shoe made by Adidas, and first launched in 1965. Originally named “Adidas Robert Haillet” after the brand endorsed French prominent player Robert Haillet, in 1978 the sneakers were renamed after Stan Smith, an American tennis player who was active between the end of the 1960s and the beginning of the 1980s.

The shoe, usually made with a white leather upper and laces, has a simple design. Unlike most Adidas shoes, it does not have the external three stripes. Instead there are three rows of perforations (or punched ventilation holes) on both sides of each shoe’s leather upper. There is sometimes a sketched picture of Stan Smith on the tongue of the shoe. In some sense, the Adidas branding is minimal on the shoe. The design and form of the shoe has basically stayed the same since it was introduced, but several new versions and colorways have appeared during the years.

Stan Smith

In 1973, Stan Smith signed a contract with Adidas. According to Sneaker Report, this contract is on 13th place of the 50 most influential sneaker sponsorships in sports history. For some reason, Adidas could not decide at first if the model should still be called Robert Haillet or if it should be renamed to Stan Smith, so for several years (1973–1978) the shoe was produced with a tongue that had Stan Smith’s portrait and the word Haillet written above it. In 1978, the word “Haillet” was removed from the tongue, and the shoe was endorsed by Stan Smith and officially renamed the Adidas Stan Smith.

The model was renamed the “Adidas Stan Smith”, after the acclaimed tennis champion Stan Smith, who was ranked World No. 1 at the time.

Nike Skateboarding

Nike Skate Boarding, primarily known as Nike SB, is the Nike brand for its line of shoes, clothing, and equipment for skate boarding. Nike Skate Boarding won the 2020 Webby People’s Voice Award for Best Home/Welcome Page in the category Web.

History

In 1997, Nike commenced production of its own line of skate shoes, but was unable to sell to many specialist skate shops, as the market was already strongly in favour of companies such as DCGlobe, eS Footwear, Emerica, and Vans. Nike was not considered a core skate boarding brand among the Skate Boarding community and did not receive the necessary level of support.

In 2000, Nike introduced the “SB” brand. The Nike SB Dunk Low model was released, featuring a padded tongue and collar, along with “Zoom Air” insoles; the shoe was more similar to other skate shoe styles than the corporation’s previous attempts. After the SB Dunk’s mediocre sales, Nike released four other models: The Nike SB Angus, Nike SB FC, Nike SB Delta Force, and Nike SB URL.

Samurai

Samurai (/ˈsæmʊraɪ/) were the hereditary military nobility and officer caste of medieval and early-modern Japan from the 12th century to their abolition in the 1870s. They were the well-paid retainers of the daimyo (the great feudal landholders). They had high prestige and special privileges such as wearing two swords. They cultivated the bushido codes of martial virtues, indifference to pain, and unflinching loyalty, engaging in many local battles. During the peaceful Edo era (1603 to 1868) they became the stewards and chamberlains of the daimyo estates, gaining managerial experience and education. In the 1870s samurai families comprised 5% of the population. The Meiji Revolution ended their feudal roles, and they moved into professional and entrepreneurial roles. Their memory and weaponry remain prominent in Japanese popular culture.

By the end of the 12th century, samurai became almost entirely synonymous with bushi, and the word was closely associated with the middle and upper echelons of the warrior class. The samurai were usually associated with a clan and their lord and were trained as officers in military tactics and grand strategy. While the samurai numbered less than 10% of then Japan’s population, their teachings can still be found today in both everyday life and in modern Japanese martial arts.
