Ancient Warfare

Hoplites (Greek: Ὁπλιτης) were citizen-soldiers of Ancient Greekcity-states who were primarily armed with spears and shields. Hoplite soldiers utilized the phalanx formation in order to be effective in war with fewer soldiers.
